The history is of the Palmwoods Memorial Hall is well documented and its life began in the the early 1920's with a committee being formed to consider then plan and build such a valuable asset to any community. Funds for the hall's construction were raised from the community and this theme has continued today with the hall being funded by the kindness and community spirit of the residents of Palmwoods.
The Palmwoods Memorial Hall soon began to become the heart of this hinterland community with early movies, wedding receptions, balls, dances and a range of fetes and flower and produce shows. During the war the hall was blacked out and used for war-time dances and the welcome home celebrations.
Over recent years, the hall has enjoyed improvements and some enlargements and it has grown to encompass numerous community focus groups, clubs and organisations. The exterior pays tribute to The Fallen from military service with a cairn facing the main road. Inside, the walls of the hall document the names of service personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice during various conflicts from Palmwoods and surrounds.
The Palmwoods Memorial Hall holds one of SE Queensland's best dance floors and is made from Crows Ash, a wood so scarce now that it is almost unobtainable, drawn from timber stocks near Yarraman. Dances, concerts and major gatherings all enjoy the huge dance floor which is well ventilated and cooled, no matter the weather outside
Today the hall stands as a testament to the dedication of
the members of the hall committee who work tirelessly and provide a historic
venue and hinterland icon for the Palmwoods community and those who travel
from around South East Queensland to sample its celebrated facilities.
