The first green was built by ‘Stevo’ Stevenson and his brother, Les, on their farm in Old
Bowling Green and opened in 1931. Eighteen men were the foundation members of the club
and the first singles champion was T J Lowe. The bowls club moved to its present site in
1940 with a 5 rink green, which was extended to full size in 1946. The first meeting was
held in a tent on the 8th February, 1948, and a Ladies Club was formed. The first perma-
nent building was constructed in 1950, with later additions in 1974, 1983 and 1985. Also in
1950 the Ladies Club joined the QLBA as they then had the required 16 members. Our 2nd green was opened for play in 1981. The freehold title of the land was purchased in 1995 and the mens and ladies clubs amalgamated in that year. Our new clubrooms were opened on 1st May, 1999, and the verandah in 2001, which has been the venue for many happy functions. Lights were installed on our No 1 green in 2002. In 2004 we were judged the Best Small Bowls Club in Queensland and in 2006 we were again finalists. In 2006 we also saw the installation of the computer controlled inground sprinkler system for both greens.
